Give your OpenAI dot a phone line
A dot keeps working between your conversations, which is the point of it. The catch is how it reaches you when something matters: through ChatGPT, Slack or Teams, all of which wait to be read. DoNotify gives your dot the one channel that interrupts, a real phone call.
The gap an always-on agent creates
A dot runs in the background on its own cloud computer and keeps making progress while you are doing something else. That is genuinely useful, and it creates a question older assistants never had to answer: when your agent finds something that needs you now, how does it actually reach you?
Today the answer is a message in ChatGPT, Slack or Teams. Those are all pull channels. They sit there until you look. If the thing your dot found is a deadline in twenty minutes, or a dose that is late, waiting to be read is the wrong behaviour.
What DoNotify adds
One connector and your dot can make a phone ring. It speaks the reminder out loud when you answer, and it works on any handset, including a landline, with nothing installed at the other end.
The skill file tells your dot when a call is warranted and, just as importantly, when it is not. Routine confirmations stay as messages. A ringing phone is the loudest thing an agent can do on your behalf, so it should be spent rarely.
How to connect it
Dots reach your services through the same connector ecosystem the rest of ChatGPT uses, so DoNotify plugs in the same way anything else does.
- Create an API token in your DoNotify profile.
- Add DoNotify as a connector, pointing at the OpenAPI file on the phone call API for AI agents page.
- Ask your dot to call you. "Ring me twenty minutes before the board call."
What it will not do
Calls only ever reach the phone number on your own DoNotify account. Your dot cannot dial a client, a colleague or anyone else, which is deliberate: an always-on agent with permission to cold-call strangers is not something anybody should ship.
If you want reminder calls going to someone else, a parent taking medication for instance, you set that up yourself in DoNotify rather than handing an agent the ability.
Worth knowing
Dots are on the Pro and Business Premium tiers, and at launch were unavailable in the EEA, Switzerland and the UK. DoNotify has no such limits: it starts free, works anywhere we can dial, and does not care which assistant asked for the call.
